Producers transforming cooking oil into biodiesel currently gain from a 20p differential but that is because of end next April.

The St Ives MP, who leads the Lib Dem Environment Team, has been meeting the UK sustainable biodiesel alliance.

Mr George said "a number of small organizations in Cornwall presently generate income from used cooking oil".

He included: "In order to be able to get this kind of market going it does need simply a bit of lift which comes in the form of tax inevitable."

Biodiesel is a blend of standard diesel, rapeseed and vegetable oils.
